Plasma Surface Engineering to Biofunctionalise Polymers for ?-Cell Adhesion

چکیده

Implant devices containing insulin-secreting ?-cells hold great promise for the treatment of diabetes. Using in vitro cell culture, long-term function and viability are enhanced when cultured with extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins. Here, our goal is to engineer a favorable environment within implant devices, where ECM proteins stably immobilized on polymer scaffolds, better support ?-cell adhesion. Four different candidates (low-density polyethylene (LDPE), polystyrene (PS), polyethersulfone (PES) polysulfone (PSU)) were treated using plasma immersion ion implantation (PIII) enable covalent attachment laminin their surfaces. Surface characterisation analysis shows increased hydrophilicity, polar groups radical density all polymers after treatment. Among four polymers, PIII-treated LDPE has highest water contact angle lowest which correlate well non-significant protein binding improvement observed 2 months storage. The study found that created by PIII aromatic was higher than aliphatic polymers. significantly improves making them substrates

Cell Adhesion to Plasma-Coated PVC

To produce environments suitable for cell culture, thin polymer films were deposited onto commercial PVC plates from radiofrequency acetylene-argon plasmas. The proportion of argon in the plasmas, P(Ar), was varied from 5.3 to 65.8%. The adhesion and growth of Vero cells on the coated surfaces were examined for different incubation times. Cytotoxicity tests were performed using spectroscopic me...

Engineering Cell Adhesion for Applications in Biotechnology

The ability to control the placement of mammalian cells is important for many commercial and research applications. Any attempt to constrain normal mammalian cells will have functional consequences and will require an understanding of the basic mechanisms underlying adhesion between cells and their underlying substratum. We describe the current model of cell adhesion and the use of micropattern...

Engineering Micro - tools in Polymers to Study Cell Biology

Recent advances in surface engineering and soft lithography provide tools to fabricate patterned surfaces and microfluidic devices with dimensions comparable to the sizes of single mammalian cells. These technologies enable the studies of individual cells on spatially well-defined, patterned surfaces, and in contact with patterned liquid media. They provide information about cells impossible to...
